From the Author:
Munshiganj is a quaint town with a rich historical background. It’s the biggest attraction has been a temple and mosque co-existing within the same premises along with the tomb of Nawab Rehmat Khan. Recently though, the peace of this little town has been affected by the paranormal – the temple bell rings by itself daily at midnight. Raya Ray, an ex-marketing honcho had been dealing with the loss when a chance to help her Banker husband, Krishanu, marked her debut as a private investigator. Detective Raya Ray lands in Munshiganj in response to a call for help from Sharmila – the sister of her house- help Sutapa. Sharmila suspects foul play when the doctors at the town hospital tell her she delivered a stillborn child and detective Ray steps in to assist.
Raya steps into a field of landmines after the body of Dr. Sonam Misra from the same hospital is discovered on the deck of a steamer and she chances upon a secret safeguarded for ages inside the temple. With the help of local rickshaw-puller Habul, Raya starts unraveling the mystery, unaware of the danger lurking over her as a pair of blue eyes trails her every move.
As she puts the pieces together, detective Ray realizes that nothing and no one is what they appear to be.- Sonia Chatterjee
About the book:
The story starts with an emotional introduction of Raya Ray, and how she ended up from being a successful director in banks to a new private deductive agent, after losing her newborn. She moves to Kolkatta and awaits for challenging cases.
Her act of investigation starts with a simple question of where is her maid’s sister Sharmila’s, newborn baby? Is the baby really born dead? Did someone kidnap? Who would expect such a web of events mixed with perfect proportions of history? I did not, for sure.
Then the story moves on to explain the history of the town called Munshiganj. I should agree, the way it was written did make me do a simple google to make sure if there is really a place with that name! Such are the details. Most happenings in the story are in just 2 place – one the hospital, another the temple.
I was amazed to hear that the author took less than a week to get this novel to see the light. With the amount of detailing in the novel about the venue, the story revolves around, that’s only possible if you had a strong understanding of the history & geography of the place. A special shout out to Sonia for this!!! Well done.
Deceiving the reader by taking them through the act of supernatural happenings, and then blending it with some history the author did succeed to give a joyful ride for the reader. I can bet that you cannot keep aside the book without the urge to complete it in one sitting.
You would be on the edge of the seat to know if the police are hand in glove with the culprits, is there any organized gang involved etc. All you questions will be answered in the last few pages. The last piece for the puzzle really makes the whole reading very interesting and give the full perspective to the novel.
