“E” in #AtoZChallenge
Our next destination in this challenge is about Emilia Romagna in Italy, the land of Ferraris.
Emilia Romagna extends from Piacenza on the west till the Adriatic sea on the east. And Modena is in the heart of this region, where my favorite Maranello is situated.
Although Emilia Romagna has many famous places like Bologna, Modena etc. including some of the best beaches along the Adriatic coasts in places like Rimini, my favorite vote goes to the Maranello for a reason.
Give me RED!!
Sure, this region is home to most of the luxury cars like Lamborghini, Maserati, and Ducati.
Yes, this is the region where the Enzo Ferrari’s dream came true. Maranello is the place where not only the Ferraris factory but also the museum is present.
This Ferrari factory was moved here in Maranello from nearby town Modena around the end of World War II.
It is a dream place for the petrol heads and the F1 race fanatics. You will notice Ferraris every at turn you make. If lucky you can even enjoy those vrrooooom sounds of the new engines being tested on their testing race tracks.
Staying in Milano has many benefits. One of them is the reach or the connectivity it has with the rest of Italy. Maranello is just couple of hours drive from Milan. I was fortunate to visit a couple of time to this place. You do have fast trains connecting from Milan to Modena, from where you can change to a bus to reach the town. But, if you are looking to save time, its best to drive there.
Maranello is a small town which hosts the Ferrari museum and has minimum connectivity with the external world if you want to use public transport. To visit this place, you need fly down to Bologna airport and reach Modena, nearest big town, from where you can catch a bus to Maranello. You have very less frequency of transport.
A paid shuttle bus link between Modena Railway Station and the Ferrari Museum in Maranello (20 km away) is available exclusively for visitors to the Museums and runs 90 minutes. The special shuttle bus also connects the Ferrari Museum in Maranello with the Museo Enzo Ferrari in Modena, which is around 1 km from the station. Tickets are available on the bus, in the Museums or online.
Emilia Romagna is the place where there are actually 2 famous car museums present. The Enzo Ferrari museum in Modena, and the Ferarri museum in Maranello. They both are just 20KMs apart from each other.
The Ferrari Museum in Maranello also offers visitors exclusive shuttle bus tours to the Fiorano track and along the Viale Enzo Ferrari in the factory complex. The 45-minute bus tour takes visitors into the Ferrari factory site and around the Fiorano track and the Company facilities. But you are not allowed to get down from the bus. Vistors can peep in the manufacturing of the Ferraris.
Welcome to Maranello
Hint to save some buck: You can have a clear view of the testing track from this place where the Maranello town starts. There is a small bridge which provides a good view. If lucky, you can see those red machines zooming across the test track.
During the first visit, the museum has displayed the 500th production unit of La Ferrari. The car was supposed to be auctioned shortly. With those lines so sleek and sexy, LaFerrari is the first Ferrari to be not having the design from Pininfarina, which is a very surprising move from Ferrari.
If you are not aware, the car was auctioned for a price of 7 million dollars! Do you think this was exorbitant? Hold your breath. The Open Coupe version of this La Ferrari was auctioned for 10 million dollars!!!
Once you are inside the Museum, I am sure you will have no clue where to begin. There are literally Ferarri everywhere you look at. The 1950s, F1 models and other cars are showcased in here. it would definitely be a wonderful treat for the eyes of the fans.
We had been crazy like anything and had no clue how many pictures we took. Thanks to the digital technology. I never need to bother about the available space in my camera memory card!!!
It’s sea of red, red and read. What’s a Ferrari if it is NOT red? It’s not just land of Ferraris, its an OCEAN of Ferraris!
There are many shops for Ferrari merchandise in here. Few official stores too.
Take it for a spin, and have fun.
There are plenty of option to take the beauty for a spin when you are in this region of Italy. There are also many rental companies who can offer a ride for a cost of 70-80 Euros and above. The above cost depends on the type of insurance you want to get for the rental.
Even a casual walk around the Maranello will certainly prove us that you are for sure in the land of Ferraris. Yes, there are many who takes this car for a spin and love the pleasure of being behind the wheels of the Ferrari for a short period!
Who can deny the pleasure?
My theme for the April 2018 #AtoZChallenge is blogging about the places I have been to. Let me see if I can make it through all alphabets. You can find all my #AtoZChallenge posts here.
Interested to know my next destination starting with letter F? It’s one of the favorite locations of Dan Brown too. Try commenting your guess, let’s see.
Or wait, and I promise it would definitely be worth the wait!
Note: To help my reader, I have updated few details on the tours from the official site of the museum. For more details info you can visit here.
