Hello Bloggers, we all are very much interested to write guest posts and get backlinks to our blogs, right? So, today, let us talk from our heart on this.
It has been a long time since we spoke our hearts out here. Plus, it has been almost 2 years after starting this blog. Last time I opened my heart we talked about why I Started to Write.
As you all may know by now, I have been blogging from the beginning of the 2000s but moved to my own domain and website just in January 2018.
Today I got an email to renew my domain and web hosting. It was only then I realized that I have been posting and bothering you to read those for the past 2 years!!!
Of course, how many of you really read is altogether a different question which I do not want to get in.
Why We Blog
Let us agree.
We all started blogging assuming that we are going to make an impact. Some maybe even thought of earning lots of money. Each of us has their own goals and wishes.
Most of us thought the Publish.. to be like a magic button that brings fame the minute you hit it. We share them on social media and wait for it going to be viral. It is only a matter of seconds for us to become famous.
And in few minutes reality hits us on the face. Isn’t it?
When I started with this blog, I use to write at frequent intervals. But I never knew about SEO, or backlinks or Plugins or Domain Authority etc.
All I knew was, I can write. All I wanted was, people to read. And that was all my one simple goal.
But looking back, I wonder that with such a humble start, slowly I was able to master the art of blogging and hosting the website all by myself. My DIY article on How to Start your own blog series had been a hit and I was happy to get so much positive feedback.
Do you remember the Five Secrets To Blogging that I wrote last year? To me personally, it was one of the best posts on writing. The post did help me gain a few friends and followers.
Until then, all I did was write, read, and enjoy the writing. I also did a lot of reading about blogging, and how to get the traffic.
As with every new kid in the town, I too started chasing blogs after blogs that offered guest posts so I can earn those so-called backlinks to my site. A bright yellow light started glowing behind my head, and I started to make a list of sites and kept sending requests.
I succeeded to get the opportunity to write for a few other blogs. In the past two years of my writing, I have written 3 guest posts for 3 different travel blogs. And I continuously write a guest post for a platform that is in the Tamil language.
I sincerely do not know how much traffic I gained by writing guest pots on those platforms that gave a link to my website. But let me tell you another secret my friends, I do not really worry about it now.
Guest Posts And Backlinks
Why do I say the guest post is not all about backlinks? Or a reference to your web site that brings traffic to your page? I have a valid reason that I wanted to share with you based on my own experience.
When I wrote the guest posts I not only gained backlinks but also learned many new things about writing blogs and optimizing them for the digital world.
For example, the blog portal that gave me the first guest post opportunity created a user account for me to contribute directly to their website.
It was the first time I saw an editor that had Yoast SEO plugin which I felt very easy to use. Also, the way the plugin was suggesting the steps to make your post a high-ranking post in google searches was simply mind-blowing.
Before this, I had no idea about the importance of the title & meta-description of the post. This Yoast SEO plugin made it a breeze. Not just that, it also gave recommendations and suggestions to make your post to have a high readability score.
What’ next? You guessed it right.
The first thing I did was to install this plugin in my personal WordPress site. Such learning is priceless because seldom we pay and attend any paid courses for blogging to learn these optimizations. Even if we attend such sessions, I feel that making one’s hand dirty is the best way to get real knowledge.
So, why do I mention this now?
Because I notice many bloggers on social media requesting guest posts solely with the idea of getting backlinks to their site. They dream of increasing their domain authority by getting as many backlinks as they could. While getting the backlinks does help, it is not all a guest post is for.
In their thirst to get backlinks, they participate in numerous blog trains and exchange of links. Don’t get me wrong, I am not advocating against the blog trains. I personally have participated and even organized blog trains with few friends like the successful XploreBharat campaigns.
These blog trains are also good to get backlinks. I am only trying to highlight how you can extract more value out of such an opportunity for your own benefit. In other words, how to choose healthy backlinks is what I am trying to highlight.
Pick The Right Site For Backlinks
So, what is the best way to select sites for requesting a backlink?
One of the main criteria bloggers approaching to write a guest blog lookout for is the sites with high Domain Authority. So obviously such sites would have a good quality of posts and content.
If they are accepting a guest post on their blog, then they would definitely have clear criteria and requirements they are looking to have in a post. Go through the requirements, and feel free to write the post for their site.
But at the same time, document those blog post requirements, and remind yourself when you write a post for your own blog.
This is not just a recommendation I am sharing with you. This is exactly what I followed and following even today. There are plenty of good ideas and inspirations that you can get from successful bloggers and blogs that you look to write a guest post on.
It is not copying. It is a learning phase to know what all ingredients you need to make a successful blog post. But what makes it unique is your writing style, the concepts you want to convey, and your signature.
So, feel free to get inspired by my blog if you find it interesting or inspiring. After all, it is the readers who can make a blogger successful or otherwise.
Now it’s time for a shameless promotion!!! Here is a few guest post I wrote in the past years.
I got one backlink from both these sites, and not sure of how much traffic I gained. But as I mentioned before, it is not the traffic, but the learning part that helps me to write and optimize my posts better for SEO is what I am looking for.
After these two years of blogging, I feel a sort of achievement.
I may not be a successful blogger when it comes to the amount of money I earn from the blog. My writing may not have those New York’s best selling books or a million copies sold tag, but I am proud that I do have readers who return to my site.
After all, what gives more happiness to a writer? It is all his readers. Right?
Thank you, readers!!!
I know, you are not here because of me. But I am here only because of YOU.
