“X” in #AtoZChallenge
Our next destination in this challenge is X-Class room, Land where it all began.
While I was posting the blogs for the challenge about the places I have visited, I was stuck when I reached the alphabet X. Most of the places starting with X are in China, and I have only been to Taiwan, but never to China.
Am I losing the challenge? Will I be a loser? That was what running through my mind.
I am just 3 alphabets away, and I do not want to call it a fail.
And all of a sudden, I got this idea.
How about writing on the visit I made to the class tenth in my school? No, it’s not the tenth class when I studied. It’s all about the place I visited – Bingo. I got a place. It’s my own X-classroom that I visited multiple times after our reunion.
It’s the X-Classroom. Land where it all began
I studied in the school in Chennai called “Sindhi Model Senior Secondary School”, located in Kellys. I was in this school from class 6th to Xth and departed from this class in 1990 and never had any chance to keep up with the friends.
Fast forward to 2014. With the help of Technology like WhatsApp, Facebook I was able to source one by one and finally we were all together!
Everyone was enjoying the moments. Since I am staying far away from Chennai, it was not just a drive away to get the meet done with friends. Same with many other friends too – most were settled in the US or in the UK. Some in Singapore, and some in Australia too.
I usually make an annual visit to my hometown in Chennai during the summer vacation in Italy. So, we decided to make it a memorable get-together. And incidentally, it was the 25th year after I left the school. Damn, I am getting old.
Anyway, with so much excitement I was counting the days for the meet.
Its finally happening
The plan was made – to meet up at the school on our Independence day celebration. Then we all get to meet at one of our friend’s places for the evening.
If not all 50 of us, many of us were able to make it to the friend’s place.
And when we reached the school, the first thing we did was to head to the class where we have been having fun in our X Class. Well, if I say where we studied, I am sure would be hard to believe and bit out of reality.
This song will summarize our memories. In fact, this was the same song we had during our farewell as well.
Thanks to the channel provider.
I do not have many words to describe the excitement I had in seeing the classroom in the land where it all began. There was little to no difference in our school. Except it lost the big tree that used to provide us shelter and shade during our Prayer & lunch times. And few new buildings.
But inside, it was exactly same. I still remember the desk I use to sit, and did took the same position with a smile on my face.
Its right there, the last but one. I saw me in there, with those Kakhi pants and white shirts. Sporting with the leather belt that showed I belong to the Subash group!
We friends were jumping from one desk (and we are old enough not to jump N desks) to other recollecting and remembering the old memories. It was a big surprise to ourselves that we all have been cherishing those memorable moments. So, deep under your mind, these memories are sculptured. It can never vanish.
These are the same stairs that have been guiding us for years, all the while we walked in line guided by the monitors after the prayers. Monitors, sure, we hated it at that time.
And this was and is our principal room. But principal has changed, but it was none other than one of our own teacher.
I think this place is one of the BEST places I have visited in all these decades of my travel. I can travel to any corner of the world, but the journey began right here.
And I am feeling it now, looking at those blackboards which are blank. But I could see every teacher in there now. I hear the chorus we make when the teacher enterd the class rooms. How many times they have scolded us for saying the “Good morning miss” with that long rythme.
One with the teacher and friends.
Days can fly, hair can turn grey, or some may lose it too, but these memories are not the one that will be lost.
Before I say bye, here is the group picture of my golden classmates. Look at those smiles, that curve says it all.
It’s always the friends that come to rescue. And this time also for this challenge it was my friends who have hinted and helped to get me write about the place beginning with X.
Truly Friends are Forever. Without the friends, the classrooms are just 4 walls with few windows. Right?
My theme for the April 2018 #AtoZChallenge is blogging about the places I have been to. Let me see if I can make it through all alphabets. You can find all my #AtoZChallenge posts here. Interested to know my next destination starting with letter Y? Try commenting your guess, let’s see.
